I would like to send a special F*** YOU!! to a couple of people on this week's F*** YOU List.

1. WEATHER.COM for saying that this week was going to be sunny.

2. My Local Weather Girls. For telling me to expect rain throughout the day.

3. Sam Champion. Because whenever you complain about the weather, whether you know him or not... it's his f**ing fault!!!

I missed out on two decent riding days because of this pack of sh**heads.

Someone once said, f**k the weather man. Take a good look at the sky... take a deep breath and take your bike out.... the forecast is... "a 100% change of freedom".

Well, after years of harrassment from my riding buddies I broke down and bought a Harley Friday. It is a 69 FLC Sportster. It needs a little work but what the hell, I virtually stole it. Fortunately I have an ironhead expert amongst my circle of friends. He has assured me he will set it up so it is not a 30 kicker. Yes it is old school, no electric start, oh joy. My plans are still to own a new Trumpet sometime this coming year, which after that is done will mean that I will have 5 bikes in my stable. The carb that is on the Sporty is worth what I paid for the entire bike at least. I am changing seats as the seat is not the right one for the scoot. Going to put a solo seat on it. And I am changing gas tanks. It has the original 2.2 gallon tank on it and I would like to be able to ride farther than Clermont before I have to put gas back in it. Well, maybe now that I have joined the dark army I will not suffer the scorn of everyone because of my rice burners.

Benefit runs

Over the last several years, I, as I am sure most of you have either participated in or organized several benefit runs. Personally, I have organized at least 100 runs. Some of them were great successes, a few of them were not so great. We, as riders, have always been known for "taking care of our own." I have never objected, nor refused to help, at least as a volunteer on any benefit ride in which I was asked for help. However, there comes a time when one must sit back and say, "when is enough, enough?"
I can attest to the fact that any run I have ever been involved with has personally cost me a few hundred dollars, mostly for the fact that the end result is to achieve the greatest donation for the cause as we can. I always had the feeling that part of putting a run together is sucking it up and absorbing part of the cost, especially when I have been given the responsibility of creating a successful run.
With the rise in fuel costs and the rising costs associated with that. I am not so free as to "contribute" my money. I believe now, more than ever, when I am asked to help with a benefit run, it is important to know all the circumstances leading up to the cause for which the run is held. Where are the proceeds going? Putting on a run used to be exciting and fun. Anymore, I find them to be exhausting, costly, and not so much fun. Do we put a run together for "just anybody" that someone feels is a good cause? Are we putting runs together just so people get out and spend a lot of money to ride?
What happened to the "fun runs"? In the last two years I have ridden on a total of 2 "fun runs". I don't know about you guys but I like to ride just to get out and ride, not ride because I feel obligated to.

It was not much. I got out for a bit and headed to Leesburg. I checked out one of the places Tugs frequents.

Beer was cold and the band was good. I got to see an old friend behind the bar, she's still so pleasant to visit. It was nice.

I saw Ron, met his Sister, and saw Rick and Diane too. Great to see you folks!

One of the things I didn't like about going to Leesburg is traveling on US441/27 and back. It's a divided highway and those making left turns in front of you are scary.

What is the damn hurry out there folks?

How about slowing the hell down and thinking about us motorcyclists? But I ask too much I guess.

And a writer, some of the time. My bread and butter is in the computer business.

I don't want to say anything bad about any event I attend, so sometimes I choose to not attend or write about certain events.

I like to go to local events for the community, by the community. I choose what I write about and take pictures of. I'm never paid to do it. (but paid advertising is available on RI)

That being said, I'm not the guy you call if a run sucked or there is a political (pronounced pussy politics) issue you know of or experienced on a run, or caused on a run.

I'm not interested in that. In fact, once it comes up, I'm likely to ignore the event.

I have been to runs that were successful and runs that were not what the planners hoped for. But, regarding the runs that didn't turn out huge, because I believed in what the event was supporting, I attended and wrote something nice about it because those that were not there missed something good.

I have strong opinions about most things and I can do as I please. But if my opinion of a run or the people on the run is not positive, I won't be writing about it in a negative light, EVER. That's not what I'm about.

The members of RI are entitled to their opinions too and they are free to write in a positive or negative light. Become a member and do your thing if necessary. (read the rules first though so we don't have to kick you out.)

So if you did a run and screwed it up, don't call me and ask me how to fix it.

If you don't like what you hear on the street about your run, that's not my problem.

If you don't like what RI members say about your run, again don't blame me. If they were there and honest, they are entitled to their opinion.

If any of the above applied to your run, fix it or quit.

Good luck out there. Most people are generous. But they expect honesty. If they don't get it, I'll know and they'll know, the word will get around. It's a small world.

But it won't be my pen that kills you. It will be public opinion that takes you out and that never has anything to do with RI and never with me personally.

Every now and then you may notice a new member joins RI and on their first post they put up 25 links to porn sites. Forum Spam.

Well, we catch it fast and ban the user and such, but even after that, there is more then one way into RI and it continues.

There are ways to stop it, but it's hard work and the server software needs to be enhanced to get the tools necessary.

At RI we have access to those tools and have installed them and we are using them. We felt we had to have them and we asked some others what they thought. The response at first was underwhelming.

Well, a few weeks later on another webmaster forum, someone asked what they could do about the very same problem and the conversations started.

This seems to be a problem on most forums and blogs for webmasters. It's nice to know it's not just us, but the fact that we have to battle SPAM and people stealing stuff to display on other websites is real.

It's a wild world that there internet.

Finally got my new High speed connection at the new place. Going through Dish Network since I now live so far down in the boonies that there is no cable or DSL. But it works pretty good, and it is a way to communicate to the outside world. And seeing as how the only phone that I have is my Cell and that doesn't even work down there, It is a way fro people to get ahold of me. It is sad in this day and age that the only way to feel safe and comfortable is through isolation. But I can sit on the front porch and not have to worry about gunshots or those pesky errant cars hitting my house.(I actually had 4 cars crash into my old house in three years) Finally got used to the quiet enough so that I can sleep. The sounds of the creek and the crickets actually lull you to sleep at night. I have to admit though that I never thought that I was going to be able to make the adjustment from a 4 bedroom house to a 1 bedroom house. Lots of stuff got the boot. It is amazing what we collect over the years. Did I really need 5 computers?? Well no, but they did make the move with me. Had to keep some stuff. Lots of clothes and household items stayed though. Actually they were mostly donated because I hate yard sales.

Summer is almost over so now HERE COMES SNOW BIRD season. We go from temps over 100 to having to watch out for the blue hairs in their cages.

I have been helping my Aunt and Uncle get their new place in the Villages ready. I am playing Foreman and trying to get it all done for them. Right now they live in Naples, FL and my Uncle would be up here right now if the place was done.

Just to add to my for lack of a better word "CONFUSION", he just bought a Golf Cart. Now I get to learn all about them. It is a 04 Club Cart so if anyone knows anything about them PLEASE let me know.

OK, enough for now.

Those of us that choose to use this blog site...that I have taken upon myself to name and have gleefully named it...RIspace....can blog away, unfettered by the topic of the current thread...Free to dash hither and yon from one topic to the next, without being called a high-jacker or troll.
Ahhhh...freedom of speech.
Discounting any comments from the haters, this could work out to be a good thing here at RI...

Its been a long couple of weeks. I just moved from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom bungalow. I went from a place where I had over 10000 cars a day and at least 50 ambulance a day go past my house, to a place where only about 5 or 10 cars a day go past and not a single solitary ambulance has passed yet. I have a creek that runs next to the house, I can ride my four wheeler in the yard, and if I want to piss on a tree, I can without the neighbors calling the cops. I should have done this move years ago. The only downfall to the whole thing is that the bungalow is in the flood plain, and has flooded a few times in the past twenty years. But I just look at that type of thing as a way to buy newer, better things. And I am insured out the wahzoo. I love it here, and my son loves it too. He is such a changed kid. He has room to run. He loves his new school, and it seems as if his whole outlook on life has changed. Guess it;s time to start buying up more land and starting to build on. Did I mention that I like it here?
