Motorcycle disjointed, confusing, and boring
I have to agree with the reviewer who called this book confusing. I'll add disjointed and boring. I expected more emotion and what the crew members did and said during their "heroic" efforts. Instead, it was nothing but a day-to-day description of his tour, which got pretty boring after a few chapters. I'm glad I only paid seven fifty for it.

Motorcycle Exceptionnal account of a Huey pilot in Vietnam
I range this book as one of the best accounts written on the Vietnam war. Chuck Carlock lets the reader live tremendous adventures and combats. Fear, wisdom, courage, comradeship : all the ingredients of a success war story are packed in this exceptional book.
I dearly appreciated the wisdom of the author. Such men are truly heroes of the great nation they served.

Motorcycle A bit too fractured...
I've picked up and read just about every Vietnam helicopter book out there. While this book is good, it is more a collection of short stories than a flowing book. I found my mind constantly changing gears as a different story was told. The stories are great, no question, but I would have preferred that they connected a little better.

Motorcycle Fantastic Writing
As a Vietnam War buff and a student helicopter pilot, I absolutely loved this book! The accounts are very engaging; I never wanted to put the book down. Carlock's writing is great: my "mind's eye" always had a running image of the book as I read. Definitely recommend it!

Motorcycle FIREBIRDS: The Best First Person Account of Helicopter Comb
While I find the title a bit presumptious, I did note that Chuck Carlock experienced a lot of bullet holes in the olive drab fuselages of the Charlie models he flew in his area of Vietnam. My experiences were in the Delta, where I think we had a greater variety of tasks and episodes to discuss and carry out. My time with the Outlaws of the 175th Avn. Company were far more enjoyable that being "up-north" with these American units described. I know what I missed. Still, it is good that some of us helicopter pilots have recorded our flying deeds in this once-in-a-lifetime experience, one we treasure now that we survived it!! Chuck salutes many of his fellow pilots at the end of the book and shows that many Vietnam vets are now successful men of stature and success in their communities.
