Want to buy a book about my vacation? Author pretends her children are pigs. Paints pictures of them visiting places in Colorado. Includes awkward text about what each pig does in each location.
Making this book was a nice treat for her own kids/pigs, but pretty uninteresting for my own kids/pigs. Our school library in Colorado must have purchased this as an obligatory Colorado book.
For the places we've visited, the commentary is irrelevant to my children -- seeing a movie star in Vail, throwing rocks off of the Royal Gorge Bridge (why are you encouraging my kids to do dangerous/deadly things?). For the places they haven't visited, the commentary is of no interest -- Scottish Festival in Estes Park.
BEAUTIFUL! My son and I loved this book! It's filled with interesting facts presented with light humor and beautiful paintings of Colorado's best places to take your kids.
It's a fun way for children to learn about Colorado. Pigs Over Colorado was a fun read for my children - they loved getting to know the author's children - shown in the book as the five Colorado sky-piggies. Each page they got into new predicaments or made new discoveries about Colorado. My youngest just liked finding the five hidden Colorado animals on every page. I liked the pigs-eye view of Colorado map - my kids referred back to it every time they finished reading about a different vacation spot, and they unknowingly got a real feel for the way Colorado is layed out. We all loved the colorful, vibrant paintings of our favorite places in Colorado. I didn't care much for the visit to Elitches - but, of course, it's my kids' favorite page.
