Koukou Debut is amazingly addictive. Sure, it's a little silly and predictable, but it really is very cute. Haruna is absolutely hilarious. I just love her character - she's a strong female role unlike a lot of the typical female protagonists in shoujo manga. Ah, and there are so many moments that had made me squeal/made my heart flutter with the seer cuteness. Yoh has really proved me wrong, he tries to act like he doesn't care/tries to act cool, but he really is very kind and even a little shy. I think Haruna and Yoh really compliment each other. The only thing that has kind of bothered me so far is how everyone insults Haruna - she isn't ugly D: Anyway, if you're looking for something fluffy and humorous, Koukou Debut is for you!
High School Debut
High School Debut is one of the funniest shojo mangas that I have ever read. Although it is only the first volume, it is well written and provides the reader with plenty of laughs. I expect great things from this series as it progresses.
Coach me, Yoh! Part 1
Haruna Nagashima is utterly hopeless in all things excluding sports. When she was in middle school she excelled at them and spent most of her free time reading manga. This gave her a very distorted view on matters of the heart. Now that Haruna has entered high school she has vowed to get a boyfriend and tries her damndest. The problem is that Haruna is trying to hard and catches the eye of Yoh Komiyama, a very attractive classmate of Haruna's.
Haruna decides that she needs a coach to teach her what to do to attract a guy - what to do, what to say, how to dress, how to act - and she pursues Yoh to teach her all of these things. With great reluctance he accepts but makes her agree to one condition, that she not fall in love with him. With a growing feeling for him in her heart she accepts and embarks on her quest to catch the perfect boy.
Haruna is such a great character. She is awkward. she is quirky. She is klutzy. She is inane.... She is utterly human. Yoh is another story, dense and emotionless and robotic. However, if anyone is going to crack his cold exterior Haruna would be the character to do it. This is a tremendous start. I am already a fan.
Laugh out loud hilarious!
Every girl wants to fall in love, but not as much as Haruna Nagashima. Haruna, loves to read her comics, and thinks that every girl is suppose to suddenly have a boyfriend when they enter high school; however, Haruna is doing it all wrong!
Dressed in unflattering outfits she tries her hardest to get hit on while out and about, only to go home defeated. While walking she falls, and like Cinderella loses her shoe. Enter Yoh; a popular high school student who hands her, her shoe.
This is one of the best series I've picked up in a while. It's almost as good as Love*Com. Be prepared to laugh out loud at the efforts poor Haruna makes in order to get a boyfriend.
not just for high school!
So, you're an older (ahem) proffesional woman, at work in your fancy suit and you can't stop giggling over Kazune Kawahara's 'High School Debut'. What do you do? Keep reading! And stop everyone that looks at you funny and show them how great this little pink book is. The art is simply lovely, the lead characters are so cute and funny and the writting is totally endearing. I can't wait for #2 and 3 to come out. Shojo Manga is my guilty pleasure but HGD is a real treat! I you liked Lovely Complex you'll definetly love this one.
