POS This book was in my amazon recommended buy thing. I did the amazon look inside preview and the pages that came up looked cool.
Lo and behold I have it in my hands now.
The art is stock eastern Asian. Theres some cool stuff going on in the first few pages. This guys not bad, but it's kind of like good "meh".
Anyways, what makes this book a steaming pile is the presentation.
1. Type over pictures.
2. Lots of blank pages.
3. Not using the full page. Some of the finished illustrations in the book are the size of thumbnails. Like there will be a picture with the same dimensions as the book and it will only take up one third the page.
I swear its like the guy designing it tried to be all clever using fancy type and lots of negative space. What a douche. Its one of those things that fails at its most basic level, in this case to present the art.
So in closing I recommend you look him up on the internet and check out his art there. I'm going to give this book away as it is useless to me. I do not recommend buying this book.
The Art of Yasushi Suzuki I had no idea who this artist was until I picked up his manga, Purgatory Kabuki. I saw this book advertised in the back of the book and because the manga was illustrated so beautifully I decided to buy it. It was the best $18 I have ever spent. It is a very beautifully illustrated book that includes interviews from the artist. I recommend this book to anyone who loves manga, anime and art in general.
An excellent book I'll make it simple: this is an excellent book, packed with the stunning art of Yasushi Suzuki. I had never heard of him until I had picked this book up, and now, I am a fan for life. Even better is the fact that anyone I have shown the book to wants to get their own copy.
I'm not sure why the previous reviewer did not like it so much, since I find none of the faults about the book that were mentioned in that review. Having said that, I do wish it were longer, but that's just a minor nitpick. Pick this one up.
great art, horrible presentation this book showcases the art Suzuki created for certain products like videogames & novels plus there are also some original illustrations, I was first introduced to Suzuki's style in the N64 game Sin & Punishment where he handled the art direction, this book however does not contain any official artwork from the game like character illustrations, scenery or even the box art, I was told it was due to Nintendo holding the rights to it, whether that is true or not it is disappointing nevertheless, the only S&P illustrations in this book are from a Dengeki magazine cover & a novel, there is plenty of official artwork for Ikaruga fans however, what's poor about this book is the presentation, the editor chose to overlayed text & page numbers on top of the illustrations, this is an artbook so that was completely unnecessary and very unprofessional
