Customer comments on this selection.
Good product for the price I bought 2 of these lapdesks as Christmas gifts for teachers who bring work home. the clipboard feature struck me as very useful for keeping papers in place. It can also be used for writing, reading, and using a laptop. The teachers were quite pleased with this gift. It is durable and practical, and while not as "pretty" as some types made of wood, it is a good product for the price.
Satisfied Good size, with room to the mouse. It is light and easy to carry. The padding on the back is very comfortable and fit perfect on your lap. The plastic is thick, but not too much resistant; but for the economic price is very acceptable! Satisfied.
Lap Desk Review - Pros and Cons
The Jumbo Lap Desk helps you work from a couch or recliner, and has some positives going for it. But this is definitely the *low cost* solution of such lap-desks. While there's nothing wrong with that, there are some considerations to keep in mind to know if this one is right for you.
The Good
For starters, this is not only for laptop use. In fact, the included clip and pencil / pen holder slots make it ideal for taking notes while reading or some other such activity. The built-in handle between the two pencil slots is convenient, though this thing is so light you don't really need to grab it there to move it.
A 17 inch laptop will fit on it, but not with enough room to spare for a mouse. And of course, if you have a 15 inch laptop and want to use this with it, this is just big enough that you can have a small area on which to place a cordless mouse. So there are some good things.
The Bad
The hard plastic surface still bends and flexes a lot, which isn't going to bother everybody but should be taken into account. For my part, I also own a wood one that I use in a different place, and obviously the wood ones don't flex like these plastic models. Then again, that one cost me about $30 more than this, so it's a trade-off. This doesn't flex enough to be a deal-breaker, so you have to see how it feels for you.
The cushion underneath seems to be a little under-stuffed and perhaps made of a synthetic fabric that can be uncomfortable and hot. It's still cooler than having a hot laptop on your legs, but in the summer time it can be uncomfortable.
In terms of price, you have to factor in the shipping when getting it through a third party. Once again, not a deal-breaker but some may opt to wait till Amazon offers it directly. I bought mine at a brick and mortar store, and it ended up being a few bucks cheaper when factoring in no shipping charges, etc. So it's ok to pay a premium for the convenience of home delivery from a third party shippers, but you may want to track the price for a while to see if this goes on sale or is offered by more sources.
Like I said, even though this isn't perfect, at the right price it can be a good value and a handy extra unit to have around. Definitely check it out.
Enjoy!
Eh, it's ok, but... I work from a couch more than I like and have placed my 15" laptop on my belly and lap for a few years. It was never as comfortable as working at a desk. I figured a board would work, then came across this 'lap desk'.
My lap desk is black with a black cushion. Nice.
The clip that holds papers is really, really nice.
Other reviewers have pointed out that the surface bends more than they'd like. That is true for me too.
Other reviewers have stated their laps get warm when using it. That is true for me too. It is summer here now, so that extra heat isn't wanted. In the winter, I'll certainly enjoy it.
If/when it breaks (I think this is likely), I'll keep the cushion and replace the platform part with some finished wood. OTOH, I've had it about a month and there are no signs of snapping or cracking and only use it about 50% of the time when on the couch.
Just what I was looking for! As a student who hates sitting at desks and prefers to be on a couch or in a comfortable chair to do work, I often have trouble figuring out how to adequately manage all of my books/papers/etc on my lap without them falling all over the place and being disorganized. I was looking for something that would neatly, safely, and comfortably hold my laptop/ book/ papers/ whatever the task at hand, and this was just right. It's strong enough to hold my 6 pound laptop, but not too bulky or heavy on its own. It can easily go in a corner or under a chair until it needs to be used. The cushiony part is comfortable and soft, and the surface is not too porous or textured to write on. It's super convenient! I do everything on it--reading, writing, computering, crossword-puzzling, sudokuing, eating, repairing, painting my nails... Plus, with the pencil holders I don't have to get up to find my lost pens every half hour. The only flaw, so far, is that the little cover-like things on the corners of the clip fell off, so when I put paper under it there's a dent... but it doesn't really bother me, it's still a functioning clipboard. If I were designing it myself, I'd throw in a cup holder and have the top open up to a storage area... but for my needs, and for the price, it's perfect!
