Tattoos have been around since ancient civilizations, however they were not known as tattoos to the modern world till about 1769. The term tattoo was found in an account of Captain James Cook's voyage around the world in 1768 to 1771. The term tattoo seems to come from Tahitian and Samoan languages which are Polynesian. Tattoos caught on with sailors of the time in Europe and Pacific societies.
Today tattoos are common place and you may see a tattoo on anyone from a doctor to a lawyer or a motorcycle rider. Do you have a tattoo?
