Great Album This is a must have, especially for the following songs: Ths Town, Cry To Heaven, Nikita, Shoot Down The Moon and The Man Who Never Died. These songs I am referring to are simply amazing...
Another album spoilt by 80's production values If Elton John had produced this album in the first half of the 1970's or in the same way as 'Songs from the West Coast'/'The Captain and the Kid' was made it would probably be a fine album. As it is its an average album spoilt my the 1980's production values.
There are some very good songs on here: This Town, Cry to Heaven, Shoot Down the Moon. There are at least a couple of others that merit a few listens. Eventually once you get though the treacled layers of 80's keyboards you will find Elton's unique melodic gift shining through.
All the musicians on this album are top notch, but to a large degree they are wasted. If you want final evidence of the souless nature of this recording compare the album version of 'This Town' with Elton's performance on the UK TV show The Tube. There is no comparison the live version on the Tube is absolutely stunning. The album version sounds castrated by comparison.
So its worth getting, but be prepared to have to listen to it a few times to find the gems.
Elton John's Ice on Fire album Very good ablum & great CD; good purchase all around.
Fans can never be objective... From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...Nikita is a great pop song, but the rest of the album is sorely lacking. Even a duet with George Michael is mess.
Some very good ones on it When Elton John released this cd i saw him playin a concert in Madrid. He played two songs that are overlooked gems: "Paris" and "Cry to Heaven"...two extraordinary songs from the Elton John catalogue. One on this songs is on this cd "Cry to Heaven". Also very good are "Nikita" (a smash hit all over the world) and the beautifull song he wrote for John Lennon "The man who never died", a piano and synthetiser instrumental played with great passion and power. There are other lesser good songs on this cd but you can bet the ones are very good.
