Great Product The product worked great! As some of the other reviews state, it might need a new design for the shoulders. But to be honest, my friend and I would not have been able to move a fridge, washer and dryer, as easily as we did, without it.
Definitely worth the money.
An Undeniably Essential Moving Accessory I cannot recommend this product highly enough. My husband, father, and I rotated use of the shoulder dolly to move everything from a couch with dual recliners to a large refrigerator and from a solid-wood armoire to an antique upright piano-- and all without injury or muscle strain! It would have been physically IMPOSSIBLE for me to move at least the latter three items, but with the shoulder dolly it was almost easy.
It is important to adjust the object being moved to a comfortable height before moving it, and stairs or a truck's ramp can require a slight shift, but you'll feel less comfortable if the item needs adjusting, so it's a remarkably intuitive product. As an added benefit, the shoulder dolly forces you to lift with your legs and not your back.
There are absolutely no negatives I can associate with product. That said, I do acknowledge shoulder pads wouldn't be a bad addition (primarily for the neck actually) but I found that ensuring that the straps were on my shoulders and off my neck eliminated that issue. A method for controlling the extra strap for tall items to prevent the tripping hazard would be desireable also, but, again, wrapping it up was simple enough.
As for the allegations that the directions were not clear, I think common sense and a glance at the pictures included should make the process fairly obvious. Let me try:
Step 1: Put the straps on. (The front side is indicated by the word "front".)
Step 2: Put the long strap, centered for weight, under the item to be moved.
Step 3: Adjust the strap until you are forced into a slight or full squatting position.
Step 4: Stand. If the object is too low or you can't lock your arms out (particularly if you are the bottom man going up stairs), retry steps 3 and 4.
Step 5: Move the object.
Simple, no?
Consider the $30 or so price tag a minimal investment that will save you time and pain. As always, Amazon's service was impeccable.
Shoulder Dolly delivers Great product. Bought a new fridge and the delivery guys were using one. They carried the new fridge out from the truck, up the stairs, through the house and into the kitchen all without stopping or hitting anything. Used it in our move, and it has been an excellent help. Good for any furniture, expecially large and heavy items (appliances, large chests, big screen TVs, etc). Worth the money.
Saved my fingertips! I have a TV that ways as much as I do. I have moved it before and the bottom of it feels like it is about to cut off my fingers and that I will drop it for sure. Not a good feeling. However I recently purchased this shoulder dolly before my last move and although the TV was still very heavy I was able to use the strength in my shoulders, back, and legs to support the weight and only had to use my hands and arms to steady it from the sides. It was SO much easier, and a lot cheaper than hiring movers!
shoulder dolley works great and saves your back. may take a little effort balancing the odd proportioned things, but overall relieves a lot of the necessary strength needed in your hands carrying things. made moving a lot easier, a must have. it is still tricky learning to go up or down stairs though, we carried some things up the stairs by hand, then used the dolly the rest of the way since it is so easy.
